Part of REGENTS CANAL,KINGS CROSS, LONDON.

North London

Has is my usual practice, when starting my holidays to mainland Europe, i stayed overnight in a small hotel opposite Kings Cross station . It is budget has London prices go, i have stayed many times. The idea why i stay the
night before ,is so i can catch the first Eurostar train of the day. This leaves me an
afternoon to explore more of London. Usually I go to the main parts of the city. This
time being February, the days are short of daylight. So i setoff to walk down a road at
the side of Kings Cross station. To my surprise i came across a canal called Regents
Canal. First of all was Granary Square, with the beautifully restored building. In front was
an area for fountains, but they were resting. Several narrow boats were moored on
the canal. Regents Canal is 8 and a half miles long, and passes by Regents Park near London Zoo. Its route is parallel to the river Thames. The path and cycle track is well maintained along the towpath. I passed a little park that used to be a Gas Works. The Gas Holder Frame as been restored . I walked only a mile and half . At a road bridge i
left the canal side, and had a pint of beer before catching a bus back to Kings
Cross, has it was getting Dark. ----The Granary was built in 1852 mainly to store
wheat grown in Lincolnshire for London 's bakers. So Regents Canal that used to be
busy for industry now, well used for leisure .A pleasant walk for me. .LONDON, KINGS CROSS STATION., Front.---Trains to Peterborough , Doncaster, York, Darlington, Leeds, Hull, Newcastle and Scotland. etc.
